FDA cancels recall of superbug-linked scope cleaners

Hospitals still must not use the reprocessors in question to disinfect some endoscopes

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has canceled the recall of superbug-linked scope cleaners, according to an article on the Fierce Healthcare website.

The FDA said that while hospitals can't use Custom Ultrasonics' System 83 Plus Automated Endoscope Reprocessors (AERs) to disinfect the duodenoscopes linked to superbug outbreaks, they could be used for other endoscopes.

Custom Ultrasonics is working with the FDA to resolve duodenoscope issues as quickly as possible, the company said.

The results of a Senate investigation published in January faulted regulators, hospitals and scope manufacturers along with Custom Ultrasonics for outbreaks.
