Hospitals across the country are being hacked and healthcare information is being encrypted and held for ransom, according to an article on the WRDW website.
"Healthcare, in 2014, it was not in the top five sectors of areas attacked," said Charlie Enicks, the V.P. / Chief Information Officer for Augusta University and Augusta University Medical Center , "In 2015, we were number one. So healthcare is on a significant rise in terms of incidence of hacking."
"Ransomware has been around for a while, but the reason why healthcare is being attacked is because, let's face it, you can't afford not to have that data people's lives are at stake," said the director of the Cyber Institute, Joanne Sexton.
It's not that medical records aren't being taken care of by hospital workers, but more needs to be done so these "cyber hostages" become less frequent, she said
