The growing impact of the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey is prompting healthcare facilities to look for ways to improve their ratings, according to a blog on the Becker's Hospital Review website.

Author Andrew A. Brooks, MD, offers five strategies hospitals can use to boost their scores:

• Make improving the patient experience a priority

 Reduce unnecessary ambient noise 

 Streamline staff communication 

 Understand patients’ time sensitivity 

 Keep patients informed 

"The cores of each of these five tips are all related to improving communication in our healthcare environment. Improved communication increases efficiency, which translates to better service," Brooks wrote.
