Florida Assisted-Living Facilities No Longer Required To Test Staff For COVID

Federal guidelines require nursing homes to continue testing


Florida assisted-living facilities no longer have to test staff for the coronavirus after two emergency mandates from the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) recently expired, according to an article on the Tampa Bay Times website.

In mid-June, the  mandates required nursing home and assisted-living facility staff be tested every two weeks for COVID-19. 

Nursing home staff are still required to be tested under Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. guidelines.

There are 3,120 assisted-living facilities registered in Florida with a total of more than 110,000 patient beds, according to AHCA.

A survey of National Center for Assisted Living members this summer found that more than half of the facilities have a diminished supply of personal protective equipment., according to an article on The Manchester Times website.

Many facilities said they have less than a two-week supply of specific PPE and say that it’s  a struggle to find theme.
