Parrish Medical Center is considering security upgrades for its Titusville (Fla.) hospital — including metal detectors and "enhanced protective equipment" for its currently unarmed security officers, according to an article on the Florida Today website.
The re-evaluation of security procedures comes after two people were fatally shot in a third-floor hospital room.
Health First, which operates four hospitals in Brevard County, on began arming some of its security officers and is planning other security changes.
Wuesthoff Health System, which operates hospitals in Melbourne and Rockledge, also is considering changes to its security protocol.
