The man tried to flee the hospital after setting the fire

A man in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., who felt like he was being ignored, set his hospital bed on fire while another patient was in the room in an attempt to get a nurse’s attention, according to an article on the News 6 website.

A nurse who heard the roommate yell entered the room after seeing the flames and shouted.

A different nurse was putting out the flames with a fire extinguisher when she noticed the man making his way to the elevator in an attempt to escape.

The bed was damaged beyond repair and a new one had to be ordered to replace it - at a cost of $4,000.
