Green cleaning in a senior care setting

Is 'green cleaning' and 'sustainability' the same thing?

In a senior care setting, is "green cleaning" and "sustainability" the same thing? Yes and no, according to an article on the McKnights website.

Most green-certified cleaning products are made from renewable resources. But "green cleaning" refers to the use of cleaning solutions, tools and equipment that help reduce cleaning's effects on the environment. But sustainability refers to ways to reduce not only the use of natural resources, but waste, greenhouse gasses, fuel consumption, water, energy and the environmental footprint of a facility, the article said.

The concepts are connected: A care facility could not be green if it did not have a sustainability program and a sustainable facility could not be sustainable if it did not have a green cleaning program.

For instance, studies indicate that the use of microfiber mops promotes sustainability in many ways. They clean effectively using considerably less water and cleaning solutions. Plus, they tend to last longer than traditional mop heads.
