In a recent blog on Healthcare Design's web site, senior editor, Anne DiNardo, says the traditional doctor's waiting room may be on the way out.
"The days of the large bus-station style waiting rooms are over," Anita Rossen, senior designer at ZGF Architects (Seattle) told DiNardo is a recent interview.
For Everett Clinic—Smokey Point Medical Center in Marysville, Wash. Rosen and her colleagues replaced the traditional waiting room with simplified and space-efficient “pause” areas outside each pod of exam rooms.
At Everett, patients check in and head to their assigned numbered and color-coded pod to go to an exam room, Rosen says. If an assistant isn’t there to take them to an exam room, a bench with cushions is available.
