A recent health facility managers survey by Health Facilities Management stressed the need for training, according to an article on the magazine's website.
The survey was conducted with the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) and the Association for the Healthcare Environment (AHE).
The survey tracks compensation trends among facilities management/operations/engineering, environmental services/housekeeping and construction/projects.
More than 20 percent of the survey respondents report having secondary responsibilities for construction/projects, maintenance, grounds, safety, security, environmental services/housekeeping and/or laundry operations. Fortunately, educational opportunities are being expanded to help members handle some of the new tasks.
