Healthcare energy management could be big business for utilities

The healthcare sector has an increasingly concentrated focus on the ways in which their facilities get and manage energy


Navigant Research is predicting that the global market for energy management systems (EMS) in healthcare facilities will generate revenue of $2.2 billion in 2024 — up from $948.8 million in 2015, according to an article on the Fierce Energy website.

By and large, the global healthcare EMS market is supported by country-specific and regional legislation and initiatives, according to Navigant. 

Healthcare facilities are struggling with skyrocketing healthcare costs, an increasingly competitive industry, and resilience concerns driven by increasingly intense weather events — while governments are introducing policies that promote energy-efficiency through prescriptive measures, building codes, incentives, and the like, the article said. 

The healthcare sector has an increasingly concentrated focus on the ways in which their facilities get and manage energy. Trends in demand for data-driven decision support tools are driving the adoption of EMS, according to Navigant.
