Healthcare facilities lauded for cutting energy consumption

ASHE names Barnesville Hospital in Ohio the 2017 Energy Champion

The American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) has named Barnesville Hospital the 2017 Energy Champion for demonstrating strong leadership in becoming a more energy-efficient facility and using saved resources to support patient care, according to an article on the Medical Construction & Design website.

The hospital, in Barnesville, Ohio, recorded an Energy Star score of 99.

Dozens of other healthcare facilities have earned an Energy to Care Award for cutting their energy use. The program, sponsored by Johnson Controls, encourages hospitals across the country to reduce their energy consumption.

Healthcare facilities that reduce energy by 10 percent or more over the previous year — and previous Energy to Care winners who go on to reduce consumption by an additional 5 percent — are eligible to win the award.
