The changing healthcare system played a role in the new Major Hospital in Shelbyville, Ind., from the design stages on, according to an article on the Shelbyville News website.
Hospital administrators began researching other hospitals and touring other facilities before they sat down with the design team to create a patient-focused facility.
"We looked at different services and we said ‘How do we want to provide these services in the future? What do we need to do in terms of emergency care, caring for children in our community, and how do we address the elderly population?’” Linda Wessic, the chief operating officer who oversees the clinical operations, said.
“Much more space and design will be focused around those patients who come in for brief stays, brief interactions and then leave, kind of within the same-day type of patient,” Wessic said.
