More attention to the role of medical devices and equipment in hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) was urged by a recent two-day forum on medical technology and infections, according to an article on the Infection Control Today website.
The forum was hosted by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation in collaboration with the American Hospital Association, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health and the Joint Commission.
During the event, 100 experts were tasked with identifying a list of HAI hazards and articulating potential solutions and mitigation strategies.
The HAI risk factors they identified included facility design, water quality, device reprocessing, and competency and training.
