Hospital emergency preparedness initiative goes national

Powered for Patients working to improve deployment of resources at hospitals during disasters


What started as an initiative in one state is expanding into a national effort to ensure emergency power resiliency at critical healthcare facilities, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

Powered for Patients, formed after Hurricane Sandy, was created to help safeguard backup power and expedite power restoration for hospitals.

Recently, the Department of Homeland Security provided the program with funding to bolster power resiliency at healthcare facilities in Rhode Island.

Based on that experience, Powered for Patients is working to create protocols for information sharing among hospitals, governments and utilities.
