How can hand-hygiene compliance be improved?

The CDC says healthcare providers are cleaning their hands less than half as much as they should be


One of the most simple and effective ways to prevent the spread of infections in healthcare facilities is by practicing hand hygiene, according to an article on the Contagion Live website.

But, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), healthcare providers are cleaning their hands less than half of the times that they should be.

In a session at the SHEA Spring 2018 Conference, Dr. Kari Simonsen, MD, division chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Nebraska Medical Center advocated for electronic surveillance.

According to Dr. Simonsen, there are newer options available to measure compliance that may be more advantageous than traditional approaches.
