The marketing director of Hudson Regional Hospital in Secaucus, New Jersey, was arrested in August after police found more than three dozen guns hidden inside an unlocked closet at the hospital. 

The firearms were found on July 18 while doing a sweep of the hospital in response to a swatting attempt, according to the Secaucus Police Department. A total of 11 handguns of various calibers and 27 rifles and shotguns were discovered during the sweep. A .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine was also seized.  

“The unsecured storage of a large cache of weaponry, especially in this location, certainly creates a risk to public safety,” says Chief of Police Dennis Miller. “I commend the efforts and professionalism of all the police personnel involved in this investigation and am thankful this situation was resolved without anyone being harmed.” 

Hudson Regional Hospital has been fined $63,000 for various licensure violations by the New Jersey Department of Health. In a letter to hospital leadership, state health officials said the healthcare facility violated state licensing standards by failing to report the bomb threat and discovery of the gun cache. The hospital was also cited for failing to maintain a violence prevention plan and implement policies and procedures to maintain a safe hospital environment.
