St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls, Idaho, conducted an emergency drill to practice the hospital’s response to an active shooter situation, according to an article on the MagicValley.com website

The drill involving hospital employees and local law enforcement agencies. Regular hospital operations and emergency services were not affected.

“The purpose of the drill is to test the response and training of the staff members in an active shooter scenario,” Emergency Management Coordinator Trish Heath said in the statement.

More hospitals have disaster response plans for active shooter events in place and conduct disaster drills periodically for improvement and training purposes as required by the Joint Commission.
