A Rockford, Ill., hospital recently conducted a large scale evacuation drill to prepare for the possibility of a major power emergency, according to an article on the WIFR website.
SwedishAmerican Hospital reviewed its response plan in the event that the whole facility were to suffer complete power failure, resulting in no lights, elevators, and more importantly life support.
Seventy volunteers acted as patients needing to be evacuated which allowed hospital staff.
"Anytime we can work with SwedishAmerican hospital, the other hospitals, is very important to us that we understand each other's policies and procedures,” said Chief Derek Bergsten with the Rockford Fire Department.
