Infection problems could cost Michigan healthcare facility its Medicare patients

An investigation found the hospital is not compliant with infection control standards

Sparrow Carson Hospital in Carson City Mich., could lose Medicare patients after an investigation found the hospital is not compliant with infection control standards, according to an article on the Lansing State Journal website.

A Feb. 6 letter from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said the deficiencies at Sparrow Carson Hospital "are significant and limit your hospital's capacity to render adequate care and ensure the health and safety of your patients."

It’s not the first time the Carson City hospital has taken heat for infection-related issues, the article said.

In 2016, ratings for the Healthcare Acquired Conditions Reduction Program ranked the Carson City hospital as the worst for infection rates among nearly 100 Michigan hospitals.
