Infection scare forces hospital to cancel almost 200 operations

Air filtration system, operating rooms are sanitized


Non-emergency surgeries were cancelled at the Royal Orthopaedic in Northfield, Birmingham, U.K., this week to allow the air filtration system and operating rooms to be sanitized, according to an article on the Mirror website.

After seeing a rise in surgical site infections, the hospital ordered an additional deep clean of its 10 operating rooms and found a potential issue with the air filtration system.

A specialist cleaning process of the entire air filtration system and operating rooms was ordered.

The hospital said it met all national cleanliness and maintenance requirements.
