The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has published a new guidance document to aid hospitals’ response to disease outbreaks, according to an article on the Homeland Preparedness News website.
The new guide, titled, Outbreak Response and Incident Management, shows epidemiologists how they can apply and utilize emergency response structures in the United States, as well as groups and existing frameworks at all levels of the healthcare sector.
It also gives them a list of resources essential to outbreak response. While many healthcare facilities can make use of it, the paper was meant specifically for acute care hospitals.
The paper’s main goal is to develop tools and strategies for prevention and management that will be ongoing.
