Joint Commission lists issues contributing to healthcare workplace settings

Violence in healthcare settings is underreported and growing


The Joint Commission recently highlighted the top six “contributing causal factors,” by healthcare facilities that contributed to violent incidents, according to an article on the Medxcel website.

They include:

• Leadership failure in policy development

• Greater need for staff screening, education

• Inadequate care planning, information management and patient education

The Joint Commission said the most vulnerable areas in a healthcare facility are the Emergency Department and general medical/surgical patient rooms.
