Kimmerle Newman Architects Tapped to Provide Planning and Design Services for Westchester Institute for Human Development

Kimmerle Newman Architects (KNA) has been commissioned to provide architectural programming, planning and design services for Westchester Institute for Human Development's (WIHD)  facilities in Westchester County, N.Y. WIHD -- one of 67 University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities -- is dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities through education, service and research.

The assignment includes 65,000 square feet of design work for WIHD’s social work, nursing, medical, psychiatric, audiology and digital therapy specialty service groups, all of which are housed in the organization’s Valhalla, N.Y. location. Within the same facility are the Westchester’s Children’s Advocacy Center, and hearing impairment services including cochlear implant evaluation and therapy. “The project programming and analysis phase is complete. Now we are conducting in-person meetings, including interviewing key staff at all levels,” said Paul Newman, vice-president and partner.

“This is a very exciting project that utilizes the full spectrum of KNA’s services,” according to William J. Kimmerle, senior associate/senior project manager. “It also underscores KNA’s ongoing support of local and regional non-profit causes, particularly in the areas of human services, special needs, education and the care of the developmentally disabled. We look forward to working with WIHD and helping this wonderful organization to achieve its goals.”

Along with its work on projects that support the physically and mentally disabled, KNA also has been recognized for its long-term commitment to the needs of victims of crimes against children and young adults. In 1996, the firm developed the first child advocacy center in Morris County now known as "Deirdre's House” for which it won an AIA Committee on Justice special merit award.

The award-winning Kimmerle Group is comprised of six divisions, each with complementary specialties, including Kimmerle Newman Architects, Urban Studio, Real Estate Services, Workspace, Project Management and Branding.
