Lake Forest Hospital reopens after floods

Healthcare facility in Chicago northern suburb was closed for nearly a week

Lake Forest (Ill.) Hospital reopened almost a week after flooding and power outages forced the facility in a northern Chicago suburb to evacuate on July 12, according to an article on the Chicago Tribune website.

The hospital underwent two types of inspections before reopening. A life safety inspection looked at the physical building and a health inspection examined sanitary concerns.

"(The health inspection) is looking to make sure everything is sanitary and that supplies and everything are in a safe sanitary condition," a spokesperson for the Illinois Department of Public Health said in the article. "The inspectors look at anything that flooding might have touched."

Flooding and a related power outage prompted the hospital to evacuate 93 patients. The patients were either transferred by private ambulance to other hospitals or discharged. Evacuated patients will not be transferred back.
