Legionella found in Va. VA healthcare facility

McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center found bacteria in cooling system


A cooling system at the McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center in South Richmond, Va., recently tested positive for Legionella bacteria, according to an article on the Richmond Times-Dispatch website.

The bacteria were discovered after a quarterly test of water systems at the facility.

The hospital said the problem has been remediated and that no patients or hospital staff developed Legionnaires’ disease.

Health officials in Chesterfield County earlier this year reported an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease.
