MRSA and other germs linger in hospital curtains, linens

Studies show both carry infection control risk


Recent studies have shown that MRSA and other germs linger in hospital curtains, linens, according to an article on the Nurse.com website.

The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology study found privacy curtains can be breeding grounds for resistant bacteria. 

Another study conducted in Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology found even washing hospital bed sheets at high temperatures in commercial washers with commercial detergent failed to remove all traces of Clostridium difficile.

Researchers in the C. difficile study also found that bacteria from contaminated linens also was transferred to non-contaminated linens.
