Smoke, fog and debris impede a surgeon's view


Even with imaging systems, surgeons may be impeded by smoke, fog and debris coating their lenses, according to an article on the Outpatient Surgery website.

Ways to keep laparoscopic lenses clear include using a smoke evacuator or filter.

An evacuator or filter can also address the dangers of inhaling surgical smoke.

Passive smoke filters attach to the trocar and filter the smoke as it leaves the patient, without creating a noise nuisance. The latest devices trap and remove 99.9 percent of the smoke particles in the insufflation gas.
