McCormick Place field hospital built in 5 days

Chicago convention center will eventually have 3,000 beds


McCormick Place in Chicago has been transformed into a field hospital in just five days, according to an article on the Block Club Chicago website.

The convention center already has about 500 hospital beds, which will be used for non-acute coronavirus patients, and 14 nursing stations. The facility will have 3,000 hospital hospital beds by the end of the month.

In addition to hospital beds, the facility will have food service and a pharmacy for patients, and it has rooms for medical supplies and housekeeping.

The facility is bigger than the largest hospital in Illinois, according to the Illinois governor.
