A fire spread throughout a portion of Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan on Friday. The fire reportedly started as an electrical fire in a sub-cellar generator room, according to ABC 7.
A majority of patients and medical staff were told to shelter-in-place as firefighters put out the fire, however, 20 patients were briefly moved.
Six people were injured in the blaze, including two firefighters.
"Mount Sinai Health System confirmed today at approximately 12:30 am that a fire broke out in the generator room of the Annenberg Building at The Mount Sinai Hospital,” Mount Sinai said in a statement. “Twenty patients were transported to unaffected areas of The Mount Sinai Hospital. No injuries were reported. Mount Sinai Health System would like to express our sincerest gratitude to front line staff and FDNY first responders."
CBS News reports that the fire damaged the building’s electrical supply. Only emergencies have been performed and many patients have been turned away for elective services. The hospital has not said when the facility will be fixed.
