A long-term center in DeWitt, N.Y., built a bistro where residents and families can "eat out" while staying in, according to an article on the Syracuse website.
The bistro offers full breakfast, hot and cold sandwiches, soups, salads and burgers. The bistro has daily specials, such as Memphis-style barbecue sandwiches and fried fish on Fridays. Wine and beers, from Ommegang and Southern Tier, are on tap.
"We want them to feel like they are in a restaurant," said Mary Ellen Bloodgood, who runs Menorah Park. "We don't want people to feel coming into a nursing home is a terrible thing to do."
The bistro, which opened in October, is also the only fully kosher restaurant in the immediate Syracuse area, according to Bloodgood and others who work at Menorah.
