Public Service Electric and Gas (PSE&G) has been given the New Jersey Association of Energy Engineers' Project of the Year award for its $3.7 million energy-energy efficiency effort at Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth, according to an article on the Fierce Energy website.
Trinitas said that the improvements have allowed the medical center to save money and direct more resources to patient care.
The updated heating and water cooling systems and lighting and energy management systems are expected to save the hospital $390,000 annually in utility costs, or about $7.8 million over the 20-year lifespan of the new equipment.
PSE&G's program is one of only four utility energy-efficiency programs in the U.S. that target hospitals and the only one in which the utility bears all of the upfront capital costs, the article said.
