Inefficient handling of bio-medical waste in New Delhi is creating problems for the Indian government, according to an article on the Indian Today website.
Between January 2014 and May 2015, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) received 18 complaints about mishandling of waste.
According to the health ministry, the amount of bio-medical waste generation in the country during 2011, 2012 and 2013 was recorded as 4,15,429 kg/day, 4,16,824 kg/day and 4,84,271 kg/day respectively.
Only 2,2245 healthcare facilities have in-house waste management systems in place. Of those facilities that don't, only 198 outsource their waste management.
