The discovery of an antibiotic-resistant bacteria has sparked a call for hospitals to step up cleaning efforts, according to an article on the Hospitals & Health Networks website.
The discovery also reinforces the importance of hand-hygiene practices in hospitals and healthcare facilities, according to John Lynch, M.D., MPH, medical director of infection control, Harborview Medical Center, Seattle.
“Hand hygiene is one part to preventing the spread of the strain and the other part is excellent environmental cleaning,” Lynch said in the article.
Cleaning products for patient room cleaning are highly effective but hospitals are complicated environments that make cleaning all surfaces difficult.
