The new helicopter pad on Glasgow’s rebuilt Southern General Hospital is causing concern among the staff, according to an article on the Daily Record website. Sources say the helipad hangs over the side of the building and has no fencing.
Staff have been saying they would feel nervous being asked to collect patients because of where this helipad’s been erected and some say they’d refuse to go, the article said.
“We’ve sought numerous reassurances about the safety of the helicopter pad and have been guaranteed that the structure is completely safe. We asked about safety nets being erected and have been told that couldn’t be done and wasn’t needed," Cathy Miller, Unison NHS branch secretary and a nurse, said in the article.
A health board spokeswoman said that they were unaware of staff concerns about the structure. “The new helipad has been built to exact safety standards," she said.
