New textile disinfects itself

Material is designed to be used on hospital doors instead of the traditional aluminum door plate


Scientists have developed a a textile that disinfects itself as a new weapon to fight hospital-acquired infections, according to an article on the Infection Control Today website.

The material was designed to be used on hospital doors instead of the traditional aluminum door plate.

The device —  which incorporates three separate nonwoven textiles — is designed to be replaced after seven days or one thousand pushes, whichever comes sooner.

Independent tests show it can reduce bacteria levels by more than 90 percent, the article said.
