Parkland Health & Hospital System, Dallas, has an impressive tech-driven operation located in a former hospital facility, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.
More than 60 employees oversee massive washing machines with as many as 14 chambers that all have a different cleaning capability. There are dryers that can hold loads up to 200 pounds. Plus, Parkland uses a recycling system that reuses about 10 million gallons of water annually.
Among all this technology is Phiefee Brooks, who has been working in Parkland’s laundry department for nearly 26 years. She sews and mends sheets, blankets and other linens in her work room with the help of three sewing machines and a serger.
Not only does she repair mountains of linens, but she also creates custom-made articles.
