Patient Equipment Decontamination Can Impact Infection Control

Quick and effective decontamination of shared patient equipment is essential

Covid-19 and flu season may mean patient equipment could quickly become a finite resource, according to an article on the National Health Executive website.

Without being effectively and routinely cleaned,  crucial medical equipment can become contaminated by bodily fluids and infectious agents.

Contaminated equipment quickly becomes a key vector for the spread of pathogens.

Quick and effective decontamination of shared patient equipment is therefore essential to limit the spread of harmful disease.

Research suggests long-term care homes should step up cleaning procedures after it finds shared medical equipment is at high risk of contamination by the novel coronavirus, according to an article on the CBC website.
