Program to support healthcare facility resiliency

Federal effort offers guidance on dealing with effects of extreme weather


The Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) is urging healthcare systems to prepare for the impact of climate change by making their facilities as resilient as possible, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

To that end, the Sustainable and Climate Resilient Health Care Facilities Initiative is offering a guide and website with useful information.

HHS released “Primary Protection: Enhancing Health Care Resilience for a Changing Climate,” a guide that focuses on developing data on climate hazards and infrastructure vulnerabilities and constructing or retrofitting facilities to better at withstanding future weather events.

HHS also is developing online resilience tools for healthcare facilities to supplement the web-based U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit.
