Retail healthcare clinics are not the only ones that can benefit from this strategy, the article said. All patients are thinking more like consumers as they pay more for their healthcare.

Patient-centered design has already been adopted by many healthcare facilities. But, as patients turn into consumers, private patient rooms may not be enough.

Experts suggest designers have to ask "What is the patient's journey from when he pulls into the parking lot to when he leaves it?"
