Saskatchewan healthcare facility plans to be redesigned

Proposed Leader Healthcare Facility Integration project will be re-tendered to trim costs

A proposed Leader Healthcare Facility Integration project in Saskatchewan to be re-tendered to trim costs, according to an article on the Southwestern Booster website.

Brenda Schwan, Vice President of Continuing Care and Project Capital Lead for the Region, said this week that the next step in the process is to engage with Leader community partners and staff to work on a re-design concept.

“There will be a significant change to the project, and we have to change it significantly to re-tender it. Once we cancel it [a tender], you can’t re-tender the same project so now that we have agreed we’re going out to re-tender, we have to significantly change it in order to [do that]. We’re going to be working with our community partners and staff as to what that could look like.”

Initially, the proposed capital project in Leader included the addition of acute care, emergency medical services and universal care unit, along with renovations to the existing Western Senior Citizens Home to accommodate the integration of health services.
