Sioux City nursing home fined for food service

Facility plans to challenge $5,000 fine, potential loss of funding

A nursing home in Sioux City, Iowa, plans to challenge a $5,000 fine and the potential loss of its federal funding after a negative report over the quality of its dietary program, according to an article on the Sioux City Journal website.

Touchstone Healthcare Community was issued the citation after a survey report from the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals Health Facilities Division found multiple violations with its food services program and two unrelated infractions.

“It’s something we are working with DIA (Department of Inspections and Appeals)  on,” said Kaitlin Thomas, administrator of Touchstone. “We have several quality improvement measures in place. This is, however, a citation we do plan to dispute with the state because we don’t necessarily agree with it.”

A common thread throughout the state's report is Touchstone residents and employees saying the facility did not have enough food in stock because no one ordered it.
