Solar power, other tech, can save hospitals money and energy

Technologies can help can cut costs and improve energy efficiency


A year into using solar panels, the CentraState Medical Center in Highland, Fla., saw a $300,000 reduction in energy costs, according to an article on the HealthTech website.  

Many healthcare organizations like CentraState are finding ways to reduce their energy consumption and costs by deploying technologies to improve efficiency.

Tools that manage energy use can alert administrators when anomalies occur so they can be proactive in repairing or replacing equipment. 

Some even calculate added energy costs if organizations continue to run failing or outdated equipment, said Kara Brooks, sustainability program manager at the American Society for Healthcare Engineering, in the article.
