Some healthcare facilities are making their ICUs more family-friendly by accommodating them in the ward, according to an article on the Fierce Healthcare website.

Accommodating families can lead to better outcomes, the article said.

Guidelines have been developed that providers can use to better include family members in ICU patient care.

The guidelines say that families should have an “open or flexible” place at the patient’s bedside, and sleeping options should be provided to prevent sleep deprivation.
