Nurses and doctors at Perth, Australia's most dangerous hospitals could soon wear stab-proof vests, according to an article on the Perth Now website.
New figures show staff members are reporting about 50 violent incidents each day. There were 19,005 “code black” threat alarms — which include violent altercations and armed intruders — at hospitals in Perth last year.
In confirming the government’s commitment to provide anti-stab vests for hospital security staff, Health Minister Roger Cook said he was considering giving the equipment to emergency department staff.
Some medical staff fear that having nurses and doctors also wear the vests could pose infection control problems.
