Study: Coronavirus Lingers on Shared Medical Equipment

Research doesn’t say whether this could lead to virus transmission

Research suggests long-term care homes should step up cleaning procedures after it finds shared medical equipment is at high risk of contamination by the novel coronavirus, according to an article on the CBC website.

The study led by Vancouver Coast Health found that blood-pressure cuffs and other medical equipment that move from room-to-room may be more likely to spread the virus that causes COVID-19 than stationary surfaces.

"Although more research is needed to determine if this kind of contamination could contribute to transmission of the virus, it did highlight areas of concern,” the study said.

The study recommended that medical equipment used by residents who have the virus should remain isolated in one room.

According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it may be possible to get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching your face.
