Superbug may be more widespread than previously known

Study says drug-resistant CRE superbugs may be spreading more widely than previously thought


A recent study says drug-resistant CRE superbugs may be spreading more widely than previously thought, according to an article on the CNN website.

A study published in  Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences said transmission of these bacteria person-to-person may be occurring without symptoms.

Hand hygiene and environmental sanitation are essential to preventing the spread of all bacteria, according to experts.

"Make sure people are washing their hands when caring for you. Make sure they are cleaning equipment," Dr. Alex Kallen, a medical officer in the CDC's Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, said.
