Surgical fire prevention strategies

Between 550 and 650 surgical fires occur each year in the U.S.


The Association of periOperative Registered Nurses recently offered tips to to strengthen fire safety programs and prevent surgical fires, according to an article on the Becker's Hospital Review website.

• Gather a multidisciplinary team of stakeholders

• Consider both systematic and non-systematic causes for fires, and determine how to minimize the risks

• Make fire prevention a daily discussion
