Technology that detects falls helps shown to reduce ED services

Reviewing videos helps caregivers determine causes of falls

An artificial intelligence-enabled camera system helped senior living communities reduce emergency care by detecting falls among residents living with dementia, according to an article on the McKnight Senior Living website.

A recent study reported that the technology helped reduce visits from emergency medical teams by 75 percent and visits to emergency departments by 80 percent

The camera system was used to detect and record falls; alerted staff members were able to review the videos in real time to determine whether a resident had hit his or her head or had other injuries.

Reviewing the videos also helps caregivers determine causes of falls and implement interventions.
