The high rate of COVID-19 hospitalizations in Texas have spurred the creation of Texas’ largest recovery centers at Casa de Amistad and the McAllen Convention Center, according to an article on The Brownsville Herald.
Casa de Amistad’s 13,000-square-foot convention hall was renovated to treat as many as 96 patients.
The center will staff three eight-hour shifts with 125-member staff including specialized doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists.
The McAllen recovery center was renovated to treat as many as 250 patients.
In July, some Texas counties prepared for a surge in coronavirus fatalities by requesting trailers to expand their hospital and county morgue capacities, according to an article on the Texas Tribune website. In Nueces County, the morgue was already full. The county medical examiner has requested an extra morgue trailer — to be provided by FEMA.
