The Opus Group announces Tom Shaver as president to lead new healthcare division

The Opus Group (Opus) announced the appointment of 31-year industry veteran Tom Shaver as president, Opus Healthcare™, a division of Opus Development Company, L.L.C., and an expansion of services into the healthcare sector.

The healthcare industry is facing unique challenges and real estate can be part of the solution. With the Affordable Care Act increasing the number of patients with insurance coverage and the aging population in the United States impacting healthcare providers and systems, executives are adjusting operations to meet the new demands of this changing landscape.

“We’re enthusiastic about our entry into the healthcare sector and serving the real estate needs of health systems,” said Shaver. “Health systems strive to improve outcomes and reduce costs, which aligns with Opus’ collaborative design-build approach. We’re excited to help customers achieve their visions for facilities that are patient-centric, efficient and flexible.”

By integrating strategic real estate decisions into business planning, health systems can improve risk management, increase patient and staff safety, reduce costs and improve campus flow. Opus’ breadth of experience and ability to manage complexities and overcome challenges on behalf of clients positions the company to undertake healthcare projects, regardless of size or geographic location.

In his new role at Opus, Shaver will lead Opus’ healthcare work, developing the strategic direction of the division with the goal of helping healthcare systems find customized real estate solutions that benefit their organizations, staff and patients. Shaver brings more than three decades of commercial real estate experience, including managing entitlements, structuring and financing deals, and identifying opportunities. Shaver was previously chief operating officer of Opus Holding, L.L.C.
